ISHPEMING – No injuries were reported after a structural fire broke out at apartments on Vine Street in Ishpeming on Thursday evening.

The Ishpeming Fire Department responded at around 7:35 p.m. to the fire at the work structure in the apartments, located at 715 Vine Street in Ishpeming.

When the firefighters arrived on the scene, “Strong smoke and fire” were from a third-floor apartment, according to a press release from the Ishpeming Fire Chief’s Office.

The fire spread to the attic of the building. Several hand lines were used to extinguish the fire.

The blaze was brought out in about 30 minutes, but firefighters were on site for three hours to perform rescue and overhaul while looking for hot spots, officials said.

The third floor apartment and part of the attic “Sustained significant fire damage”, according to the press release. All other apartments “Moderate sustained smoke and water damage” and all tenants have been offered assistance from the Pigs ‘N’ Heat Fire Relief Fund.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined, the statement said. The Michigan State Police fire investigator has been assigned to investigate.
