OAKLAND – A 23-year-old woman was killed and a man injured early Sunday in a shooting in East Oakland, authorities said.
The name of the woman, who authorities said was a resident of Fresno, has not yet been released. The condition of the 38-year-old man who was shot, an Oakland resident, was not available.
Police said the pair were shot around 3:17 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Foothill Boulevard, a predominantly residential neighborhood near Franklin Elementary School.
After being shot, they were able to get their own transportation to a hospital where the woman died.
The motive for the shooting and the number of suspects involved are under investigation. Police are also trying to determine why the woman was in Oakland and how the two knew each other.
This is the 106th death this year that Oakland Police are investigating as a homicide. Around the same time last year, police investigated 80 homicides in the city. There were 109 homicides in total in Oakland last year.
