Facebook is having an absolutely lousy day.
The platform is down due to an apparent problem with its DNS servers. This means that millions of dollars in untold revenue are missing. The company lost nearly five percent of its stock value on Monday morning, according to MarketWatch. It is the worst failure of the company since 2008 – and we have no idea what caused it.
Even Facebook’s internal communication tools were destroyed, leaving employees to scramble. Worse yet, some employees would not even have been able to physically get to work because the company’s computer systems had failed at such a basic level.
“I was just on the phone with someone who works for FB who described employees unable to enter buildings this morning to begin to assess the extent of the outage because their badges were not working to access the doors. “, The New York Times journalist Sheera Frenkel wrote in a tweet.
