A driver and his passenger died at the scene of a single vehicle crash Sunday morning in Allen Park.
The fatal crash happened around 3 a.m. on October 3, near the intersection of Allen Road and Garfield. The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee knocked over two street lights, a fire hydrant and part of a tree. He stopped just before hitting a building.
Allen Park police said they believed alcohol and speed were factors.
Detective Jim Thorburn said it is estimated the vehicle was traveling over 60 mph when it swerved from the road and crashed.
The driver was a 36 year old male from Texas. His passenger was a 36-year-old woman. As of Monday morning, the police were still trying to determine his next of kin to inform them of his death.
Police say they were from a Taylor bar. A customer who saw them there told officers he tried to stop the man from driving, saying the customer believed the driver was intoxicated.
The investigation is ongoing.
