Dearborn Heights Crestwood looked to continue their recent wins as they traveled to Melvindale on Tuesday for a Western Wayne Athletic Conference showdown.

The visiting Chargers had few issues with the Cardinals and came away with a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-15, 25-13).

Crestwood’s victory gives the team four straight wins and six in the last eight outings, excluding exhibitions and tournaments. Meanwhile, for Melvindale, it’s losses in back-to-back games and four of his last five overall.

The Chargers had an extended run in each of the three sets that ultimately propelled them to a win.

In the first set, a 10-2 stretch halfway through gave Crestwood a 20-10 advantage before finally closing things off. In the second set, the Cards took an early 5-3 lead before the visitors responded with a 7-1 stretch. It forced a time out for Melvindale and the Chargers never looked back.

Finally in the third set, it was a 10-3 run to end the game and then the game as well. Crestwood’s five league wins came 3-0.

Kawthar Jawad led the Chargers with five kills, one of six different players on the team to have recorded at least one. Isabella Reda and Miera Nachar each have three wins while Lana Fahda and Riley Herston each have one.

Herston and Pia Korkmaz beat Crestwood each with five aces while Jawad and Diana Hassan each have four. Reda dug up five shots while she and Hassan each had two blocks. Fatima El-Sayed and Naveen Hussein shared the tuning tasks, they combined for 11 assists.

For Melvindale, Lauryn Leverett led the way with four aces. Akiyah Ash had three while Lizbeth Munoz had two. Munoz killed a hit, as did Mya Pina and Lauryn Darby. Jurnee Taylor recorded a couple of kills.

Allison Snipes added a blocked shot for the hosts.

Both teams will complete the round robin tournament in WWAC on Thursday. The Chargers will return home to welcome Romulus while the Cards travel to Annapolis.
