Calaveras County Public Health reports 2 new deaths from COVID-19, a man and a woman in their 50s. There are 40 new cases of Covid since yesterday’s report. Active cases have increased to 47, including two Covid hospitalizations. There are 12 new cases aged 0 to 17 and 9 new cases aged 65 or over. Since the start of the pandemic, Calaveras has had 570 Covid-19 positive children aged 17 and under and 628 Covid-19 positive aged 65 and over. Calaveras vaccinated 53.8% of its eligible population.
Tuolumne County Public Health reports 42 new cases of COVID-19 since Monday’s report, including 19 which are jurisdictional transfers from previous weeks and which were reported today for our county. There are 229 active cases of which 5 are hospitalized. The current total case rate, a 14-day average for Tuolumne County, has fallen to 36.7 from 38.8 per 100,000 population. A total of 4,706 have been released from solitary confinement after testing positive for COVID-19, there have been 105 deaths, 5,040 community cases and 1,620 inmate cases with no currently active inmate cases.
New cases reported today include 19 cases aged 17 or younger and 9 cases aged 60 or older. The breakdown by sex and age is; 1 girl and 8 boys from 0 to 11 years old, 3 girls and 7 boys from 12 to 17 years old, 4 women and 3 men from 30 to 39 years old, 2 women and 4 men from 40 to 49 years old, 1 man from 50 to 59 years, 2 women and 2 men from 60 to 69 years old, and 4 women and 1 man from 70 to 79 years old.
Of the 42 new community cases, 35 were not vaccinated and 7 of the new cases were vaccinated. Of the population of Tuolumne eligible for vaccination, 59% were vaccinated. Active community cases in Tuolumne County fell below 200 for 8 days before increasing. Cases were over 200 for 49 days between August 2 and September 19 with a maximum of 407 active cases. In the previous outbreak, active cases were over 200 for 36 days between November 15 and December 20 with a maximum of 350. Two deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Monday, October 4.

Preview of last week (Sep 24, Oct 1) Tuolumne reported a total of 197 new cases of COIVD-19 and Calaveras reported 151 new cases. There have been two deaths of residents of Tuolumne due to COVID-19 and three deaths of residents of Calaveras. Hospitalizations in both counties declined over the week, although Friday’s in Tuolumne fell from four to six.
COVID-19 test Public health recommends if you think you have been exposed to COVID, make an appointment to be tested 5 days after exposure and if you have any symptoms, please get tested immediately. The Tuolumne County State Test Site is open 7 days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. Appointments can be made at www.lhi.care/covidtesting or by calling 888-634-1123, the same website and phone number can be used to schedule testing in other counties. The tests are also available at some pharmacies, from Rapid Care, the hospital emergency department if you have symptoms, or contact your health care provider.
