The newly created city of Greensboro Cultural Affairs Committee will hold its inaugural meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 11, via Zoom. The meeting ID is 817 1591 6455 and the password is 003212. To join the meeting by phone, call 301-715-8592.
In September, city council created the nine-member commission to promote the work of Creative Greensboro, the city’s arts and culture office, and serve as a liaison with council. The commission will receive reports from Creative Greensboro regarding the development and results of the investment strategies and will provide advice and guidance.
The committee will meet on the second Monday of each month. Meetings are open to the public.
Members of the Cultural Affairs Commission were selected from those who filled out a form of interest and to reflect the demographics of the city as well as a variety of connections to Greensboro’s creative community. Commissioners will serve three-year terms, although the original terms have been staggered. The first members appointed by the municipal council are:
· Douglas bender, who resides in City Council District 5 and represents the business community and a low-budget arts organization. The initial mandate expires on September 30, 2025.
· Catena Bergevin, who resides in City Council District 3 and represents a big budget arts organization and tenant organization of the Greensboro Cultural Center. The initial mandate expires on September 30, 2023.
· Juliette Blanche, which resides in City Council District 3 and represents a college or university arts program area. The initial mandate expires on September 30, 2024.
· Duane Cyrus, who resides in City Council District 4, represents a college or university arts program area and is a creative entrepreneur. The initial mandate expires on September 30, 2024.
· Cute Elkes, who resides in City Council District 1, and is a community leader with active involvement with the Greensboro Creative Community. The initial mandate expires on September 30, 2025.
· Leigh Ann Little, which resides in City Council District 5 and represents Kindergarten to Grade 12 arts education. The initial mandate expires on September 30, 2023.
· Victoria Milstein, who resides in City Council District 3 and is a creative entrepreneur. The initial mandate expires on September 30, 2023.
· Janine Robledo, who resides in City Council District 5, and is a creative entrepreneur. The initial mandate expires on September 30, 2024.
· Naomi woods, who resides in City Council District 2 and represents the business community. The initial mandate expires on September 30, 2025.
