LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – On Wednesday afternoon, Lexingtonians had the opportunity to get their free flu shot from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department at Consolidated Baptist Church.
The clinic operated from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the health department says it has exceeded 400 pre-registered people. The health department claims that this mass clinic is an annual event where it is able to test the emergency preparedness plan, which is the ability to administer a large amount of vaccines in a short period of time.
The Department of Health says a recurring problem it is noticing this year is that people do not want to get the flu shot due to the flu season that was virtually non-existent last year. However, the health ministry says it expects a very busy flu season this year and encourages everyone to get the flu shot.
“This is possibly the most important flu shot you have ever received, because not only are you protecting yourself from the flu, but you are also helping to take the pressure off our already busy hospitals and health care providers,” said Kevin Hall, spokesperson for the Lexington-Fayette County Department of Health.
If you missed the free flu shot clinic on Wednesday, there are other chances to get it. In addition to your local pharmacy or medical provider, the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department holds free appointments for the flu shot every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at their clinic.
