One of Michigan’s largest health care systems says about 400 of its workers quit rather than get a COVID-19 shot.
The Henry Ford Health System confirmed on Tuesday that about 1% of its workforce quit their hospital jobs during his tenure to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to FOX 2 Detroit. Another 1,900 – or about 6% of the workforce – obtained religious or medical exemptions from the vaccine.

If the resigning team members “change their mind and get vaccinated,” they can re-apply for a job with Henry Ford. “We are doing everything we can to keep these doors open,” said Bob Riney, president of healthcare operations and chief operating officer. “Whatever they choose, we wish them the best and appreciate the years of service they have provided to our community and to our organization.”
On June 29, Henry Ford became the first Michigan healthcare system to announce a vaccine requirement for its workforce. At the time of the announcement, the workforce vaccination rate was 68%. The requirement went into effect on September 10.

Riney said the new hires are already making up for squad members who have resigned, adding that Henry Ford is actively recruiting and hiring as part of an aggressive short and long term strategy. Hiring fairs are scheduled for October 7 and 12 at several Henry Ford branches.
Currently, more than 1,600 adults hospitalized in Michigan have been confirmed positive for COVID-19.
