More than 250 jobs are heading to Boonville.
Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp. on Wednesday announced that it would expand operations in Missouri by opening a manufacturing facility in Cooper County in the former Nordyne manufacturing facility.
The new facility will help the company meet the growing demand for general-purpose motors used in lawn and garden products.
Kawasaki CEO Joe Tabata spoke at Wednesday’s event. He has worked for Kawasaki since 1988 and ran the Marysville, Missouri plant from 1997 to 2004.
Tabata said customers are asking for more Kawasaki engines and the Boonville plant will help deliver higher level products.

Gigi Quinlan McAreavy, director of economic development for Boonville / Cooper County, said the new expansion of the Kawasaki plant in Boonville is exciting for everyone in the city.
“Kawasaki is a world-famous company. We are delighted that they have chosen us. They are striving to be up and running fairly quickly by early 2022. It depends on the hiring,” said McAreavy.
Cooper County Industrial Development Authority chairman Ken Hirlinger said he saw Kawasaki as the “glue” of the new expansion.
“It’s an exciting time for Kawasaki to come to Boonville,” Hirlinger said.
The average salary for positions created at the Boonville facility is well above the county average, according to a press release.
“Kawasaki is excited about the expansion of the Boonville community, which will ease the high demand in Maryville and allow our business to grow and increase capacity,” said Anita Coulter, Deputy Director of Administration, Kawasaki and manager of the Maryville plant. “We were fortunate to find a place that has a hometown feel and a strong work ethic, as evidenced by the dedication of the Boonville leaders.”
Work on the new facility is expected to start this month, with production starting in May 2022.
Kawasaki has used state training programs for nearly 30 years, most recently creating 110 new jobs in Maryville in 2020 with help from Missouri One Start. He also has another facility in Lincoln, Nebraska.
