The historic gardening program is Thursday
The Linwood Community Library will host a gardening program with a historic twist this week.
The event will begin at 6:30 pm This Master Gardener’s main program will look at herbal medicine from the 1800s and the roles of women. Participants will learn how the secrets of the plants were transmitted from Europe to the western prairie and to the hills of the Ozarks. There were certainly strange remedies for aches, pains, and many indiscretions.
Operation Fauna open house scheduled for Sunday
The local animal rehabilitation nonprofit, Operation Wildlife, will host its annual open house next month.
The open house will be held Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the organization’s facilities in Linwood. Reservations are required to attend the event this year, and space is limited, so only six tickets will be sold per time slot. There will be tours and presentations with public education animals every fifteen minutes, and participants will receive a bag of treats and a drink upon leaving. Masks will be mandatory to attend.
War of the Worlds Month will be celebrated with a screening of films
It was on the eve of Halloween in 1938 that Orson Welles aired his original War of the Worlds show which is still a classic today.
The Linwood Community Library is celebrating the book and its many adaptations this month with two programs.
At 6:30 p.m. on October 14, come see Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film adaptation starring Tom Cruise. The film will be shown indoors on the library’s large projection screen. Then, at 6:30 p.m. on October 29, hear the true story of Orson Welles and his radio show. Were Americans really that scared?
