Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, along with members of the County Commission Board, the PortMiami team and industry partners hailed the successful inauguration of the Scarlet Lady, Virgin Voyages’ first new cruise ship at its home port, PortMiami.
The Scarlet Lady was delivered on Valentine’s Day 2020 and was scheduled to make its maiden voyage from PortMiami on April 1, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the line had to postpone its inaugural season. Scarlet Lady began passenger operations from Miami on the evening of October 6.
The 2,800-passenger Scarlet Lady features innovative technologies that reduce fuel demand. The brand is proud of its commitment to creating ‘epic change for all’, by supporting the commercial advancement of clean energy, alternative fuel sources and other positive climate initiatives. The line has also gone further by using carbon offsets to balance the impacts on climate change.
Additionally, Virgin Voyages’ new Cruise Terminal V, soon to open in PortMiami, will be ‘shore power ready’ by 2023. The terminal is part of Miami-Dade County’s Shore Power Phase 1 project. which will generate county-wide benefits by reducing emissions. ships burning bunker fuel while in dock.
