The public is encouraged to provide comments at the next meeting of the Citizens’ Law Enforcement Review Committee at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12.

Members of the public can listen to and / or participate virtually in monthly meetings by following the steps CLERB website. The agenda is available here.

CLERK was established in 1990 to increase public confidence in law enforcement by investigating citizen complaints against San Diego County Sheriff’s Assistants and Probation Officers. The agency is also investigating deaths related to acts of sworn assistants and probation officers. The County Supervisory Board expanded the budget, staff and authority of the CLERB in 2020.

The CLERB is committed to conducting independent, thorough, timely and impartial investigations. It makes advisory findings on complaints and recommends policy and procedural changes to the sheriff, the chief of probation, and the county supervisory board.

The supervisory board appointed four members of the CLERB on Tuesday, filling ten of the eleven seats. The CLERB is made up of two members from each of the five supervisory districts and an eleventh is usually chosen from one of the districts. A District One headquarters, which includes Coronado, National City, Chula Vista and Imperial Beach, remains open. Members serve three-year terms.
