We are delighted that five members of our senior class have recently been named MLK Fellows by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Trust Fund. Each of the winners will receive a $ 20,000 scholarship for their post-secondary education. This year, our winners are Amy Carolsviza, Cynthia Deneus, Jason Hicks, Hannah Lin and Shayla Roche. Congratulations to all!
Hispanic Heritage Month
Members of our Success Hispanic Alliance Club, with the support of our Diversity Office, recently gathered a group of flags on the lawn in front of the Norton Gymnasium to celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, which recognizes achievements and contributions. Hispanic Americans who inspired others to succeed. You will notice the display when driving around campus.
Painting program offered
Our Visual and Performing Arts Department is delighted to announce the return of its Adult Painting Class starting October 26th. The 10-session course costs $ 275 and will begin with students learning color theory, including how to mix values and colors in acrylic paint. The class will then progress towards creating observation paintings. Students will learn through visual demonstrations, individual assistance, and individual practice time. Open days
We are delighted to welcome the families of Grade 8 (and even Grade 7) students to campus for one of our next three open days: Sunday, October 24 at 1 pm; Saturday November 13 at 2 p.m. or Thursday December 2 at 6 p.m.
The best way to find out more about Norwich Free Academy is to experience it, and these days are designed to provide incoming students and parents with the key information needed to make the important decision of where to attend high school.
We know the opportunities at NFA are unmatched in our region, but we want you to experience them for yourself. The format of the open house is simple. The session will start at the Slater Auditorium with a brief overview of the school and our programs. Following this presentation, students and families will have the opportunity to tour our campus and see first-hand what sets us apart.
This is a great opportunity for you to hear directly from our administration, teachers and students on what makes an NFA education so unique. Eighth grade students have a variety of choices when it comes to choosing a high school, but we believe that after attending one of our open houses, the decision will be very clear.
Back home
Saturday October 16, it’s Homecoming at the NFA! The football team will welcome Waterford at 1 p.m. at Turf Field. Pre-game events will take place, as well as a reunion celebration for the students that evening. Instead of the traditional indoor dance, we are taking all the necessary precautions and hosting a field event for our students which will include dancing, games, a one-time photoshoot and more. We will share photos next month!
