The highly anticipated Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is now in the wild as the fighting game community has taken to the world of Nicktoons to see what all the new platform fighter has to offer.
Our resident Smash Bros. expert Justin “Adaptive Trigger” Gordon has played and watched a ton as he prepares to see Nick All-Star Brawl again, and he joins me on this segment of the EventHubs podcast to share his first discoveries. Without giving too much away, there are a lot of good and bad at this early stage.
If you’ve been browsing FGC’s social media for the past few days, you’ve almost certainly seen the growing examples of some aspects of this new title breaking up. An endless combo, overpowered streaks, stop-play abilities, and more already hamper its competitive presence, but there’s certainly a bit of a grace period afforded to brand new games.
Here in 2021, developers have the opportunity to patch and update to fix bugs and balance things out, and we all expect the NASB to follow suit. The main question right now is, will this game be considered valid enough to maintain a strong following as it recovers?
Adaptive Trigger details just how much of a hindrance existing issues are while contrasting them with the main strength of the game: how fun it is to play right now. Considering the demographic spread this game will naturally reach, it may not need to rely on the love of the most competitive to thrive, but there are issues for this camp as well.
