(Update: six of C. Oregon’s reported deaths Thursday)
PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – There are 59 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, including six in central Oregon, bringing the state’s death toll to 3,959, reported Thursday the ‘Oregon Health Authority.
Central Oregon Health Services said six of the deaths reported Thursday were from central Oregon: four from Deschutes County, bringing the total to 112, and two from Crook County, for a total of 42 .
The OHA also reported 1,453 new confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday, bringing the state total to 339,556.
OHA Releases New Report on COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough
The OHA’s latest update on groundbreaking COVID-19 cases, released Thursday, found that 75.6% of the 10,411 COVID-19 cases reported between September 26 and October 2 were in people unvaccinated.
There were 2,542 breakthrough cases, representing 24.4% of all cases.
The average age of breakthrough cases during this period was 46 years. Forty-nine breakthrough cases involved residents of care facilities, retirement homes or other collective care facilities. There have been 91 cases of breakthrough in people aged 12 to 17.
To date, there have been 28,075 breakthrough cases of the COVID-19 vaccine in Oregon. The average age of all cases is 48 years old. Revolutionary cases have been reported in all 36 counties.
Cases of COVID-19 are much more common in unvaccinated people, the OHA said. The report shows that the rate of COVID-19 in unvaccinated people is currently about four times higher than in vaccinated people.
To date, 4.5% of all vaccine breakthrough cases have been hospitalized and 0.8% have died. The average age of those vaccinated who died was 81 years old.
“Vaccination remains the most effective tool to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” the agency said.
“The number of vaccine breakthrough cases identified in Oregon remains very low compared to the more than 2.75 million Oregonians who have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine,” the OHA added.

The OHA on Thursday released its latest dashboard report on pediatric COVID-19 case data in Oregon.
This dashboard replaces the previous report and is published weekly on Thursday with the most recent full week data.
COVID-19 hospitalizations
The number of hospital patients with COVID-19 in Oregon is 699, down 31 from Wednesday. There are 173 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, down 14 from Wednesday.
There are 51 adult intensive care beds available out of 689 total (7% availability) and 286 adult non-ICU beds available out of 4,236 (7% availability).

St. Charles Bend reported 78 COVID-19 patients as of early Thursday, 15 of whom were in intensive care, including 10 on ventilators. Thirteen of 15 intensive care patients were not fully immunized and 61 of 78 patients were not fully immunized, the hospital said.
The total number of patients in hospital beds may fluctuate between reporting times. Figures do not reflect admissions per day or length of hospital stay. Staff limitations are not captured in this data and may further limit bed capacity.

Vaccinations in Oregon
The OHA reported Thursday that 16,508 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines were added to the state’s immunization registry on Wednesday. Of this total, 1224 were initial doses, 1360 were second doses, and 3,546 were third and booster doses. The remaining 10,340 were administered the previous days but were entered into the vaccine registry on Wednesday.
The seven-day moving average is now 11,692 doses per day.
Oregon has now administered 3,079,816 doses of Pfizer Comirnaty, 1,919,046 doses of Moderna and 219,615 doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.
As of Thursday, 2,762,379 people had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 2,543,105 people had completed a series of COVID-19 vaccines.
