The San Francisco 49ers put George Kittle on the injured list on Saturday, downgrading his status from questionable to absent for Sunday’s showdown with the Arizona Cardinals. Kittle will miss at least the next three games with a calf injury, as the 49ers believed he could face the injury throughout the year.

With Kittle in the casualty reserve, the 49ers give him time to heal and hit 100% for the second half of the season. Kittle has 19 catches for 227 yards (11.9 yards per catch) with zero touchdowns this season. Kittle is fourth among tight ends for receiving yards and fifth for receiving.

Kittle is one of the best tight ends in the NFL when he’s in good health, but he missed eight games last season and will miss at least three games this year. Since the start of the 2018 season, Kittle ranks third among tight ends for receptions (240), second for receiving yards (3291) and first for yards per target (9.85) among players with more. of 100 targets.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan reiterated that Kittle had no knee injuries. It’s just his calf – a good sign for a team that needs their top healthy wide receiver. With Kittle absent, Ross Dwelley will start at the tight end.
