The recently released Far cry 6 Ubisoft’s video game has drawn the wrath of the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Although PETA is known to have released statements about handling animals in video games over the years, and Far cry 6 includes a variety of animals and instances that might have been the subject of such a declaration, this is the rooster fighting mini-game in Far cry 6 which was specifically called.
“Turning a horrific bloody sport like cock fighting into a Mortal Kombat style video game match is a far cry of true innovation, because today’s society is firmly opposed to forcing animals to fight to the death, ”read the statement from PETA Latino Senior Director Alicia Aguayo. “The roosters used in cockfighting are equipped with sharp spurs that tear flesh and tear them apart and cause fatal wounds. PETA Latino urges Ubisoft to replace this reprehensible minigame with one that does not glorify cruelty. “
Unlike its real-life counterpart, the cockfighting video game in Far cry 6 is essentially a condensed version of a traditional fighting video game like Tekken or Street Fighter where players choose one bird to battle another. The two then go head-to-head, with special films and health bars, to find a winner. It’s not really a cockfight as it really exists, but neither is it not cock fights.
In fgeneral, Far cry 6 sees players take on the role of Dani Rojas as they join a revolutionary group called Libertad on the fictional island of Yara. The players work to free Yara from the grip of President Antón Castillo, played by breaking Bad‘s Giancarlo Esposito, and his son, Diego, whom he is preparing to take his place. Dani and their revolutionary compatriots have their work cut out for them.
Far cry 6 is currently available for the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, and PC through the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store. You can check out all of our previous coverage of the new Far Cry video game here.
