The reason so many people think Chappelle is doubling down on past comments is that he has spent around the last third of his comedy special talking about LGBTQ + issues, especially when it comes to the transgender community. “TERF” is a term that many critics have applied to Rowling, meaning “radical trans-exclusionist feminist.” This is someone who believes in feminism but does not include transgender women as part of their personal belief or activism in the matter.

“They look at transgender women like us black people look at Blackface,” says Chappelle. “They say ‘oh, that bitch makes an impression on me!'”
