The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) investigation into the September incident with Frontier Mounted patrol officers have yet to conclude despite initial assurances from the Biden administration that it will take “days.”
“The investigation is ongoing. The department is committed to a thorough, independent and objective process. We are also committed to transparency and will publish the results of the investigation once it is completed,” one wrote. DHS spokesperson in a Saturday email, according to Washington Examiner.
Photographs went viral in September, showing mounted patrol officers deterring Haitian migrants attempting to illegally cross the United States across the river in Del Rio, Texas. Critics and some news outlets have claimed officers used whips against migrants, with some claiming the footage evoked the era of slavery.
Many outlets subsequently quashed the claim after it became apparent that officers were using reins instead of whips.
DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told Congress on September 22 that the investigation into the incident would end in “days, not weeks.”

President Biden September 24 weighed on the situation with the officers, swearing, “these people are going to pay.”
Due to the conviction of Biden and others, the chairman of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) Brandon judd expressed concern about the integrity of the investigation, telling Fox News in an interview that “the pressure that is going to be put on these investigators to find fault is going to be enormous.”
Judd defended the officers, saying that not only were they following standard protocol, but that they “were sent to the river and given specific instructions due to the number of people already under the bridge.
“They were sent there and ordered to specifically ensure that no one else enters the United States,” he continued.
Noting the president’s great influence on promotions, Judd said if investigators neglected to find fault, “he’s going to wonder why [they] did not do their job. “

“They have already had the president, the vice president, Jen Psaki herself and the secretary of Homeland Security have already passed judgment on what happened there without an investigation.
“So now the investigators are just going to go out there and they are going to have to find fault based on what all these extremely powerful people have already said,” he added.
