CUTSHIN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 51-year-old woman was killed Sunday afternoon when the ATV she was driving struck another all-terrain vehicle and plunged into an embankment.
According to Kentucky State Police, Sherry Cornett, of Yeadiss, was killed in the crash that was reported to soldiers around 2 p.m. on KY-699 in the Cutshin community of Leslie County.
Soldiers responded to the scene and said the initial investigation indicated Cornett was riding a red Honda Rancher ATV northbound on KY-699 when she struck a yellow Polaris razor from behind. The collision knocked the ATV off the road onto a steep embankment, resulting in fatal injuries, the soldiers said in a statement.
Cornett was pronounced dead on the spot by the Leslie County Coroner’s Office. No other injuries were reported.
Toxicology reports are pending. No helmets or safety equipment were in use at the time of the collision, according to the KSP.
This incident is still under investigation and is being re-enacted by Private Jarret Fields.
