The first lap of Kentucky-Tennessee was a failure. What was initially presented as a heavyweight battle turned out to be a total imbalance, while Kentucky eliminated the No. 1 Flights to Rupp Arena, upsetting the SEC race.
The second round should be better balanced Saturday, while Kentucky No. 4 will visit the No. 7 Tennessee. The Volunteers (25-3, 13-2 SEC) seek revenge, Kentucky (24-4, 13-2) tries to prove that the first match was not a coincidence, and both seek a win – and, in turn, a chance to stay at the top of the SEC's position in the process.
"We fired shots and we bounced back, so we had a chance," said British coach John Calipari about the first game, a blistering 86-69 win for the Wildcats on Feb. 16.
Kentucky has won three consecutive victories since its last meeting with the Vols, while Tennessee has had some ups and downs, winning two of its last three games for Saturday.
