Recent measles outbreaks in British Columbia and Alberta have prompted people to consider how to protect themselves from the disease.
No case of measles has been confirmed in this province and, while some are suspicious of vaccines, vaccination rates in this province are high at 95%.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, Regional Medical Officer of Health, stated that vaccines are tested, effective and safe. She says that they are very effective against measles and other infectious diseases.
She encourages those who may not have been vaccinated to do so. You can check your measles immunization status with your local public health unit.
