"The number one is your flu shot – it's your best weapon against the flu – it's not too late to receive it now," he said.

Mask said that people should never underestimate the power of a good hand wash, a quick shot of a Clorox rag on a desk and keep your distance from sick people .

"This infection is transmitted by respiratory droplets, so we think that six feet away is the distance you need from someone," he said. "We really want people to stay at home when they are sick."

Mask said that although the severity of influenza cases has increased, the influenza season tends to peak between mid-February and late February.

The flu season officially began on October 1 st and usually lasts until May.
