Elfrid Payton, the New Orleans Pelicans' guard, entered the NBA's biggest names list on Monday, scoring a triple-double in his fifth straight game.
Payton, a sixth-year NBA veteran, has joined Russell Westbrook, Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan to accomplish this feat, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Westbrook did it four times, Robertson did it three times and Chamberlain twice.
Payton, averaging 10.5 points, 7.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds this season, collected 19 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds on Monday in a 129-125 overtime win at Dallas, putting end a series of six defeats for New Orleans.
Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry praised Payton's performance after the match.
"Being a playmaker and being able to get double-digit rebounds night after night is really hard to do," he said. "Whenever they mention you in the same breath as Westbrook, you have to feel really comfortable. If they mention you in the same breath as Oscar Robertson, that's another area. "
