NASA reveals the winning design of the March Habitat Challenge

NASA unveiled the concepts of 3D printed towers that could house the first humans on Mars.

Each of the striking structures would house living spaces as well as a laboratory for experiments.

The projects revealed by NASA were developed by the winners of the Habitat Challenge printed in 3D.

The competition asked teams from all over the United States to propose a habitat that could house the first astronauts on Mars.

The first place was won by the team "SEArch + / Apis Cor" of New York.

Their twisted, tower-like "tower", "Mars X House" – which exists only as digital renderings for the moment – can be enhanced by 3D printed add-ons.

The team's plan involves building several houses on Mars X on Mars by robots with artificial intelligence before humans arrive.

"Mars X House is built autonomously using indigenous Martian materials," NASA said in a video on the drawings.

"It is a pioneering and sustainable habitat that supports future human missions to Mars."

The astronauts would live and work in the complex, which would let natural light filter through the holes scattered around the facade.

The models of the structures show astronauts working in the laboratory and relaxing in their room. One of them is even cracking an acoustic guitar for a bit of R & R.

Mars X House is one of three winners of NASA's Habitat Challenge.

Second place goes to the Arkansas Zoperhous team, whose cover will be printed by an autonomous rover.

Mars Incubator, a Connecticut group, came in third with a design that includes space for growing plants for food

The three winners each claimed $ 100,000 before the grand finale next month.

There, they will fight to be crowned winners, with a fund of $ 800,000 to win.

The teams will have to build a 3D model of their designs for the last contest of the contest, which will last four years.

The challenge is designed to advance the building technology needed to create sustainable housing solutions for the Earth and beyond.
