Martin County – A Stuart lawyer and his wife, found dead last week in their home in Palm City, have died of "complications of hepatitis A," according to a spokesman for the forensic doctor's office from Treasure Coast.

The mode of death was natural, said Christine Canard, administrative manager of the examiner's office.

Jeffrey Kirsch and his wife, Nancy Kirsch, both 62, were found dead at their home in Palm City on March 28.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, hepatitis A is a transmissible liver disease caused by the hepatitis A virus. It is spread through food or water contaminated by feces. Symptoms include stomach pain, loss of appetite, nausea and fatigue. It is prevented by getting vaccinated.

Theresa Hewitt, legal assistant of Jeffrey Kirsch for three years, and Randall Fischer, a lawyer who worked with him, said Jeffrey Kirsch was sick of what appeared to be the flu about a week before his death and that it was " extremely sick ".

"They (Jeffrey and Nancy Kirsch) were both very sick and I honestly think he was so sick that he was not thinking clearly," Fischer said. "It's absolutely weird."

Martin County Sheriff's spokeswoman Christine Christofek wrote in an email Thursday afternoon that the agency had concluded her investigation and found no criminal act and no criminal cause. responsible for the death of the couple.

The deputies reported that they went to the couple's home in the Islet 3,700 Southwest Sunset Trace Circle, Palm City, around 4:50 pm. On March 27, a family member reported being sick and not answering phone calls.

Jeffrey Kirsch met with MPs at the door and told them that Nancy and he were both sick, but that they did not need medical help.

The deputies said they returned home the next day after receiving another call to check the couple and found them dead.

According to the Florida County Health Department of Martin, hepatitis A can spread when a person touches objects, food or drink contaminated with feces from a person hepatitis A.

Renay Rouse, spokesman for the Florida Department of Health in Martin County, said Thursday afternoon that the agency was not investigating any restaurant or county company for being a victim of hepatitis A.

Rouse said that there was no food or contaminated water in the county.

No other information was available on Thursday.
