A 19-year-old woman claims that brain tumor pain has been repeatedly dismissed as "migraines"

In the UK, a 19-year-old woman claims that despite 15 doctor visits for "debilitating headaches", it took an emergency visit to the hospital for her pain to be diagnosed as a cancerous brain tumor. Beckie Hiley, who has since had the tumor removed, said she had experienced "a year of suffering and nobody listens to it, it's the worst" of her ordeal.

Hiley, who told SWNS that her doctors had pinned her pain to a family history of migraine headaches, said she was forced to stay away from work when her headaches began to cause serious vomiting.

"I could not keep any food and I could barely walk from bed to couch," said Hiley, who had to reschedule his studies at the University of Suffolk, at SWNS. "I was going through first-year student week, meeting with my lecturers and starting to have a dual vision, which is difficult when you study literature."

She told SWNS that a CT scan had revealed a lesion on her left frontal lobe and that a biopsy had revealed a grade 2 gemistocytic hemocyte brain tumor. Hiley said her diagnosis was surreal, but she was also relieved to receive an answer after eight months of suffering.

She underwent surgery to remove the tumor, but suffered a setback in early 2019 when analyzes showed that she had rebuffed. She underwent a second craniotomy in February and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Hiley said she was working with The Brain Tumor Charity to increase patient awareness and help patients have a stronger voice during their doctor visits.
