A bird that died 136 000 years ago comes back from the dead

Several hundred thousand years ago, a group of rails flew to an atoll in the Indian Ocean and eventually evolved to become unable to fly. After the island was wiped out by the floods, the birds disappeared. However, over the ensuing thousands of years, the island, Aldabra, resurfaced and a new batch of rails colonized the island. They have also become unable to fly over many generations.
