INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minnesota (AP) Authorities claim that a woman from Minnesota was killed by a black bear on an island located in Canadian waters.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, Catherine Sweatt-Mueller, 62, of Maple Plain, was living with her parents in a remote cabin in Red Pine Island, Rainy Lake, after being killed.
According to the Star Tribune, Constable Jim Davis, of the police, reportedly stated that Sweatt-Mueller was out Sunday night outside, when she had heard her two dogs barking, but that she was not safe. Had never come back.
Davis says his parents called the police. Officers found a bear standing on Sweatt-Mueller's body and shot the animal.
Minnesota wildlife biologist Andy Tri says that a predatory attack by a black bear is "beyond extreme scarcity".
The Red Pine Island is about 16 km northeast of International Falls, Minnesota.
