A cruise ship connected to the Church of Scientology leaves St. Lucia in a climate of fear of measles

A cruise ship that had been quarantined this week in St. Lucia as a result of a measles alert took to the road for Curaçao's maritime surveillance records.

The ship St. Lucia Coast Guard Sgt. Victor Theodore says Freewinds, left St. Lucia at 23:18. On Thursday, the boat is expected to enter the port of Willemstad in Curacao, about 500 miles west, Saturday at 6 am local time, according to the MarineTraffic website.

The vessel was quarantined, which means that no one was allowed to leave the ship on Monday when local health authorities confirmed that an employee on board had contracted the highly infectious disease.

Freewinds is also a 2,000-meter cruise ship owned and operated by the Church of Scientology. Island officials declined to comment on the name of the cruise ship, but Theodore told NBC News that it's the same boat as the one listed on the airline's website. ;church.

Scientology officials have not returned several messages left to the church this week by NBC News.

Before leaving St. Lucia, a doctor on the Freewinds requested 100 doses of measles vaccine, said an island health official.
