Saint Lucia, car. – The Freewinds cruise ship from the Church of Scientology, which was quarantined on the island island of St. Lucia due to a measles-related emergency, was transferred to its tie port.

Hundreds of passengers and crew were reportedly stranded on the cruise ship on the Caribbean island for three days as of Thursday morning, after the authorities confirmed that one person on board had the virus.

The local government ordered the 300 crew members and passengers of the Freewinds to remain aboard the vessel during its investigation. This 440-foot ship would belong to the Church of Scientology.

The majority of passengers on board are crew members, including the woman who had been tested positive for measles.

The authorities have announced their intention to return the vessel to quarantine once upon arrival in Willemstad, Curacao, its port of registry. A team of local health officials will assess people on board before consulting international health agencies on a landing plan, ABC News has learned.

The ship was scheduled to arrive on Saturday morning at dawn.

"We had early information [Thursday] In the morning, from two sources, two reputable sources, that there was a confirmed case of measles aboard a cruise ship that visited our island, "said Dr. Merlene Fredricks James.

The CDC is already tracking the worst peak in the United States for decades, with more than 700 cases in 22 states. The epidemic strikes mostly unvaccinated people.

"It starts with symptoms of colds – fever, cough, runny nose and sometimes red eyes and that can last about 3 or 4 days before the rash appears," said Dr. Vikram Anand. "So, if you have not been vaccinated and you have what might look like a bad cold, it could actually be measles."

Doctors say that it is one of the most contagious viruses in the world when an unprotected person is exposed to measles. They say that they have a 90% chance of contracting the disease.
