A dead and two injured in the explosion of a house in Indiana

One person died and two others were injured after the explosion of a house in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Sunday morning.

Just before 5 am, an explosion destroyed the house and sent debris flying into the Capitol Hills neighborhood, burning a car and damaging about 20 surrounding homes, reports the Courier-Journal.

The neighbors said that they knew that a man and a woman lived at home, but they did not know exactly who could be the third victim. The three wounded were taken to the University of Louisville Hospital, where one individual was declared dead and the other two are still being treated. The names have not been published yet and their conditions are not known, according to Sgt. Jason Ames, a spokesman for the Jeffersonville Fire Department.

Neighbor William Short said he was awakened by the sound of the explosion and saw what looked like a fireworks coming from the house.

After the first explosion, he said he heard a second boom that broke his windows.

"You never think that you will wake up and see your neighbor's house completely gone," he said.

According to local sources, at least five of the houses affected by the explosion are now unbearable.
