Air Force officials are investigating after a Thunderbolt II A-10C fighter jet participating in a training mission accidentally fired a rocket near Tucson. Officials at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base said the M-156 rocket landed Thursday morning in an isolated desert near Mount Graham.

They claim that the accidental launch of the white phosphorus projectile in the area of ​​Jackal's military operations, located about 100 kilometers northeast of Tucson, caused no injuries or material damage. White phosphorus is used by the military in various types of ammunition to produce smoke to conceal troop movements and identify targets.

According to KOLD-TV, a subsidiary of CBS, the M-156 rocket weighs 23 pounds and is approximately 4.5 feet long.

The A-10C Thunderbolt II was deployed to 354 Squadron at 355 Wing.
