A fighter suffers from a cut finger at CFFC 94

Although MMA has been a remarkable sport for over two decades, there is still a time when something happens that has never been seen before.

That’s what happened at CFFC 94 on Thursday, when Khetag Pliev had his left ring finger completely cut off in his main co-event fight with Devin Goodale.

It was a crazy scene in the fight that UFC Fight Pass broadcast from 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. After the end of the second round of the 180-pound catch weight contest, Pliev (5-2) returned to his corner and there was an unusual panic from the doctor and cornerman.

Everyone quickly realized that Pliev’s finger was not sticking out of his glove as it should have been, and it was unclear what had happened to him (via Twitter):

The fight was immediately halted – with Goodale (4-0) the winner – and the search for Pliev’s finger began. The AP announcer told attendees the appendix was missing and commentator CM Punk made a chilling statement.

“It wasn’t a compound fracture. It wasn’t a break. His finger is missing, ”Punk said.

Upon further investigation of the tape, the problem seems to be that Goodale landed a series of kicks in Pliev’s hand. The kicks appeared to damage the finger, and the separation occurred during subsequent grapple exchanges and Pliev’s glove adjustments (via Twitter):

At the end of the main event, CFFC President Rob Haydak revealed that the finger was found inside Pliev’s glove. He was immediately rushed to hospital, where he was taken for emergency surgery to reattach him.

Haydak posted a graphic image of Pliev’s hand as he left the room (via Instagram):

When Pliev’s surgery was over, he spoke to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi and offered an update, sharing a picture of his repaired finger (via Twitter):

“In the second round he grabbed my glove with one hand and held it,” Pliev told ESPN. “I felt my finger snap. He continued to pull on my glove and my finger broke. We continued to fight. When the second round is over I see my [bone] was in the open. I wanted to keep fighting, because I felt like I had this guy. But the doctor saw this and stopped the fight. “
