Do you remember the Seinfeld horror game made in Dreams about a year ago? No? Well, he’s back anyway, and he’s looking stranger than ever.
When I first covered Sinfeld Remastered (then called Sinfeld Chronicles), it was a pretty straightforward Seinfeld horror game, if there ever could be such a thing. You’ve walked around familiar places like Jerry and Kramer’s apartments, and sometimes you’re surprised by a possessed doll. Back then, RareBird Games promised that something bigger was in development, and today it has kept that promise.
Sinfeld evolved, even mutated, into an entirely different animal. In the first minute of the trailer above, you see protagonist Donathan wandering around what looks like a post-apocalyptic version of Jerry Seinfeld’s New York neighborhood before turning around and revealing that he has Major baby face. “You kept waiting, eh?” Don asks while cracking a resolutely hostile smile. What did I get myself into?
I’m really not sure what’s going on. The official synopsis says Don is just the adopted son of Seinfeld (who was his nephew) who was abandoned in New York City and needs a place to crash, but the trailer shows him being fighting monsters and shooting down helicopters, so there’s clearly something the developers aren’t. don’t tell us about this guy. YouTube’s description mentions an “endless loop of nightmares,” but that elucidates next to nothing.
There are also references to Spider-Man, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Metal Gear Solid. RareBird teased a New York-themed game last year, but now it looks like the sky is the limit for Sinfeld’s crossover potential.
In fact, I would say the sky is the limit for this game in general. Everything can happen. Ray Romano but with zebra stripes might come across as the final boss and I wouldn’t be surprised at this point. Sinfeld Remastered is chaotic as hell, and it doesn’t really matter that it’s not really a Seinfeld horror game anymore. In fact, RareBird now describes Sinfeld Remastered simply as “an action horror comedy parody featuring various play styles inspired by Resident Evil, Silent Hills, and PT.”
Get ready for a wild ride, as RareBird tells AV Club that it plans to release Sinfeld Remastered on PS5 and PC in October.
As soon as we learned of Sinfeld’s existence last year, we had to include him in our list of best Dreams levels to play on PS4.
