MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – A Friendly Fisherman food service employee at Madeira Beach, a popular John's Pass Boardwalk Place restaurant, has been tested for Hepatitis A positive, according to the Florida Department of Health. Health of Pinellas County.
According to DOH-Pinellas, laboratory results confirmed that the worker had tested positive on May 22.
"On May 21, 1919, an employee who was not handling food called his manager and complained of illness and was told not to come to work and to see a doctor.
That evening, a family member of the employee called and spoke with our store manager and stated that the employee had been tested positive for hepatitis A and that he was undergoing other tests.
On the morning of May 22, as a precaution, our senior management decided to take action and ask all employees to be vaccinated. We have established a table of employees and, if necessary, drive them to local pharmacies for their vaccination.
We also arranged to have the health department. come home and vaccinate all employees who have not yet received it.
We have provided the health service with the requested employee information and are working diligently to assure our staff and the public that we have health safety standards in our facilities. The Department of Health. interviewed employees for any signs of hepatitis A.
During our health inspection, we took corrective action to correct any violations and re-employ employees in areas of concern.

RECOMMENDED:
The ministry recommends that people who ate or drank at the restaurant between May 7 and May 20 to be vaccinated against hepatitis A. Those who have already received the vaccine against hepatitis A have no need to take additional measures.
DOH-Pinellas offers the vaccine at the following locations from Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm:
- St. Petersburg: 205 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St.
- N Pinellas Park: 6350 76th Ave. NOT
- Mid-County (Largo): 8751 Ulmerton Road
- Clearwater: 310 N. Myrtle Ave
- Tarpon Springs: 301 S. Disston Ave
Please note that DOH-Pinellas will be closed to commemorate Memorial Day on Monday, May 27th.

What is hepatitis A??
Hepatitis A is a very contagious disease that attacks the liver. It can be transmitted when a person unknowingly ingests the virus from objects, food or drink contaminated with small undetected amounts of stool from an infected person.
People infected with hepatitis A are the most contagious from two weeks before the onset of symptoms to one week after. Not all infected people have all the symptoms. Symptoms usually begin within 28 days of exposure to the virus, in a range of 15 to 50 days.
Symptoms include:
- Fever
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue / fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea and vomiting
- Stomach pain
- Dark colored urine
- Stool in pale color or clay
