A 15-year-old girl was shot dead in the 1000 block of North 26th Street on Saturday night, according to Fort Dodge Police Lt. Dennis Mernka.

She was taken by ambulance to UnityPoint Health-Trinity Regional Medical Center. She was then airlifted to Blank Childrens Hospital in Des Moines, Mernka said.

He said the girl was shot in the yard of a house at 1044 N. 26th St.

The shooting took place around 11 p.m.

Neighbors said there was a party in the house, with up to 60 people, before the shooting.

At around midnight, a man was arrested at the scene after wrestling with several police officers. Earlier, police told him to stay out of an area surrounded by crime scene tapes.

Fort Dodge Police and Fire Department, the Webster County Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa State Patrol have responded.
