A large meteor lights up the sky in Norway

Norwegian experts say an unusually large meteor was visible over much of southern Scandinavia and illuminated southeast Norway with a powerful flash of light for a few seconds as many observers also reportedly heard a sound roaring afterwards.

The Norwegian Meteor Network said it analyzed and reviewed several videos from the event on Sunday and said the meteor first appeared about 90 kilometers (55 miles) north of the capital, Oslo, and had continued on its course in a southwesterly direction before breaking up into several lightning bolts. light.

“The meteor appeared at 1:08 a.m. on the night of July 25 and was visible for about 5 seconds,” said the network, which had published a video on the phenomenon on his Twitter site.

Sightings of meteors, space rocks that burn brilliantly after entering Earth’s atmosphere at high speed, are not uncommon in Norway, and the Norwegian Meteor Network has a number of cameras constantly monitoring the sky.

A meteor that survives passing over the ground is known as a meteorite.

Preliminary data suggests that a meteorite may have struck Earth in a large wooded area, Finnemarka, not far from Oslo, the Norwegian Meteor Network has said.
