JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP) – It started as a light challenge between a Florida couple. Can a smart car enter their kitchen? The answer: yes it can.

Patrick Eldridge parked his smart car in his kitchen to protect it from Hurricane Dorian as he did not want her to "explode" and prove that he could park his car there.

Jessica Eldridge said that her car was already parked in the garage. To avoid cleaning their garage, her husband offered to park it in the house.

"I said that there was no way in. He said he could," Jessica said. "So he opened the double doors and let him in. I was surprised that it could go in. He had it without any problem."

Dorian was sailing the Florida coast on Wednesday, narrowly missing Jacksonville as she was heading north along the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

The Category 2 storm has devastated the Bahamas, where rescue teams are only beginning to take full measure of the damage.

The car in the middle of the kitchen, Jessica Eldridge had to move to cook and serve dinner.

"I hope that he will retire soon when the wind is down," she said. "There is room and it does not bother but my dogs are troubled."
