A man who helped the scouts was accused of heroin trafficking

A man from South Carolina, who became viral yesterday for buying $ 540 of Girl Scout cookies as a goodness, was arrested for several serious drug charges, WSPA-TV reported on Tuesday.

A viral article on Facebook tells that Detric McGowan had originally bought seven boxes of biscuits, which he had paid $ 40, before returning them to the girls and asking them to prepare their latest cookies. He wanted to buy them all so that the girls could protect themselves from the cold, explains the post.

The WSPA announced that the next day, the DEA arrested McGowan for conspiracy to manufacture heroin, cocaine and fentanyl. The DEA claims that McGowan tried to import drugs from Mexico and also conspired to smuggle more than a million dollars.

A DEA officer told the TV channel that the arrest was part of a federal drug investigation that opened in September 2018.

Officials from the local Scout troop told WSPA: "No one was hurt. Nobody was threatened. We had no reason to think that this man was anything other than one of our valued customers who helps Scouts to conduct awesome experiences through the cookie. Program."

McGowan is currently in the custody of US Marshals.
