A Mexican national who died while he was in the custody of the ICE

FUS immigration officials on Friday announced the death of a Mexican citizen in the custody of US police.

Abel Reyes-Clemente, 54, died Wednesday morning in the Florence, Arizona, service request center after ICE medical staff said Reyes-Clemente had been diagnosed with the flu beginning of the week.

The staff found that the Mexican national "was not reacting and breathing" when paramedics tried to resuscitate him. He was transferred to the Maricopa County Police Authority to be placed in the custody of the ICE after serving his sentence for impaired driving.

According to federal documents on Reyes-Clemente, he was reportedly returned to Mexico five times, most recently in 2008.

ICE officials are still waiting for the final results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

"In accordance with the agency's protocols, the relevant public health agencies and local law enforcement agencies were informed of the death, as was the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Security. Reyes-Clemente is the fourth person who has died in ice custody since October, the statement said.
