A shooting in a Costco store leaves 1 dead and 2 wounded in Southern California

An armed man opened fire on Friday night in a Costco shop in Southern California, killing one and injuring two, police said.

The gunman and the victim allegedly quarreled in the Corona store, about 80 km east of downtown Los Angeles, when the suspect began firing.

Police surrounded Costco as dozens of shoppers fled to the shelter. The Corona Police Department later tweeted that the calm had been restored.

The suspect fired at least six shots, witnesses said. He was arrested and taken to the hospital after claiming he was injured.

"I thought maybe someone might have dropped a bottle of wine, but then I continued to hear gunshots," said Will Lungo's witness at the Riverside Press-Enterprise. "An employee came in and helped us through the emergency exit." He added that an employee had helped them to reach the emergency exit.

The state of injured victims was not clear and the police did not identify the people involved.

The police did not indicate a reason for shooting nor did they indicate whether the suspect and the victim knew each other.
