MADRID January 24 (Reuters) – An 85-year-old woman believed to have died from the coronavirus in her family surprised her relatives by returning to her care home nine days after learning she had been buried, a newspaper reported on Sunday.
After confusion over names, Rogelia Blanco’s family were told the retiree died of COVID-19 on January 13 and her funeral was taking place the next day, La Voz de Galicia newspaper said. Due to coronavirus protocols, they were unable to attend.

The newspaper quoted the San Rosendo Foundation, which operates the nursing home, as saying the error occurred when Blanco and other residents who tested positive for COVID-19 were transferred to another nursing home on December 29. for specialized treatment.
“Among the elderly transferred, there were two women who were assigned the same room,” said the foundation, according to La Voz de Galicia. They were transferred to the Os Gozos Residence in Pereiro de Aguiar, 223 km (139 miles) from Xove.
“A misidentification during the transfer process from Xove to Pereiro de Aguiar led to the death of one of them who was certified on January 13, although the identity was wrongly assigned”, did he declare.

A court had been told to reverse the error over Blanco’s death, the statement said. The foundation did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
