Officers investigated a shootout involving an officer Friday night at the Bellagio hotel and casino, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) – A bullet-proof vest probably saved the life of a Las Vegas metropolitan police officer after being shot by Friday evening shots at the Bellagio hotel, announced the police early Saturday morning.
The police were called at Bellagio around 9:45 pm when the armed suspect stole the area of the Bellagio's poker cage. The suspect crossed the north gate and attempted to take a car to the north car park near Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard.
With a strong police presence already in the vicinity on patrol, four officers responded. Police said the suspect had returned, pointed a gun at an officer and shot at least one round beating him in the chest. Another policeman fought back and hit the suspect.
The agent and the suspect were taken to the University Medical Center. The officer was treated and released, and suffered no serious injuries, probably because he was wearing a bulletproof vest, police said.
The suspect died Saturday, according to Metro spokesman Officer Aiden Ocampo-Gomez.
He is the only suspect in this case, police said Saturday morning.
Bellagio guests said no one was allowed in or out of the north entrance during the officers' investigation.
Andrew Badecker, who was inside the poker room, said the robbery took place without anyone noticing. He said that the room was surrounded by officers who would not let anyone leave.

This was the fourth policeman involved in shooting against the Las Vegas police in 2019. In accordance with LVMPD policy, the names of the officers involved will be published after 48 hours.
While the investigation was continuing, police said anyone with information about this incident should contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555. Tips could also be sent to the Metropolitan Police Police Investigator Team at 702-828-8452.
