A British woman with kidney stones developed a sepsis infection so severe that doctors were forced to remove both her hands and feet.
Mandy Parkin, 54, of South York, England, told SWNS that she had been to a local hospital two months ago with what she thought was appendicitis, but that she was not pregnant. she had learned that she was suffering from kidney stones. Shortly after, Parkin, a grandmother, learned that she was developing sepsis, a life-threatening medical emergency defined as "the body's extreme reaction to an infection," according to the Control Center. Shortly after, Parkin had organ failure and septic shock. She was placed in a medically induced coma, in which she remained until mid-July.
When she woke up, her limbs became black due to infection, which eventually forced the surgeons to amputate them.

Parkin, who is still hospitalized, told SWNS that the experiment had been a "challenge", but was quick to see that she was not letting her health problems affect her attitude.
