Ahead of Sunday’s game between the Jets and the Dolphins, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Jets head coach Adam Gase would return to calling the team’s offensive plays after handing over the duties to offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains a few weeks ago.
After the 20-3 loss to Miami was written on the books, Gase was asked if he was calling the pieces during an extended exchange with reporters at his press conference. Gase denied taking over the role and that the team did “the same in the last four games.”
It was pointed out that Loggains “wasn’t doing anything” on the sideline and didn’t have a scoresheet. Gase said he relayed Loggains calls while admitting he calls some plays.
“He tells me,” said Gase. “It’s not hard. It’s not hard. You run it through the drive before.” Hey, these are the three pieces. I’m doing the third runs.
Gase was then asked what happened after those three games as a reporter pointed out that Loggains was talking to another assistant on the bench while the Jets had the ball in the second half.
“When we came down, I was trying to do a few two-minute things,” Gase said.
The Jets have collected 260 yards while falling to 0-11 this season, so it’s no surprise that no one is rushing to take credit for pulling the strings for the league’s worst offense.
