The Crew 2 on PlayStation 4
The Ivory Tower Crew in 2014 had a ton of ambition in bringing a virtual interpretation of the United States to the open world racing genre. In spite of all this ambition, things were not quite executed with the same vigor, and finally its multiplayer component felt undercooked, and the whole thing was missing at the level of the Polish players. Although I would love to say that things are different in The Crew 2, they simply are not, and that can be summed up in one thing: it suffers from an identity crisis.
The Crew 2 does not seem to know what he wants to be. On the surface, its huge open world and its variety of vehicles almost give the impression of being the perfect MMO racing game. Still, when you dive into what is here, you end up with a hodgepodge of features that feel as if they were added just to tick a box, rather than helping the series achieve its ambitious vision. That's something I wanted to address now, because many of my complaints seem to me to be resolved if The Crew 2 focused on its offline or online gameplay, not both.
In terms of history, things are pretty beautiful. barebones in The Crew 2. You are pretty much a person, and so you will have to prove yourself in each of these families by completing races and confronting your Rival in each of them to be the best runner of all. time. You will also participate in Live series events that combine the three types of vehicles: car, plane and boat as part of your ascent to fame, which we will talk about a little later
There are four different families of the race, each with a number of varieties inside. Street Racing includes Drift, Drag and Normal races in the streets, while Freestyle includes Monster Trucks, Aerobatics and Jetsprint. Off-Road and Pro Racing make up the rest of the families, and each of them helps keep the gameplay fresh. But that's where things start to go wrong.
The race was rarely fun in The Crew 2. His AI is suffering from serious rubber bands, to the point that you can be miles away, just to catch up in minutes, only for them to be in bad, regardless of the perfection you drive high. Of course, you will still win races because of the fact that they are slowing down for you, but there is nothing satisfactory about it.
I was frustrated because of the incredible speed of the AI (in no world a Abarth 500 trounce a Vanquish Aston Martin), or bored because my car was upgraded up to present on the recommended level that there was no competition. There did not seem to be any in between for the difficulty of the events, and although they all have challenging options, The Crew 2 would have greatly benefited from a wider range of difficulty setting parameters to fine tune and refine your experience Combine that with the maneuverability (especially in cars) that seems just a little too spongy, and a questionable track design and you'll end up spinning on the track time and again as the AI take the corners with precision expert. That being said, there is some variation in the control of cars and vehicles, but it is certainly not at the level of the Forza series.
This is after my first mistake during a race at The Crew 2 that I noticed the lack of a feature that puts the Focus on all these issues. With rubber, cheap AI and sponge handling, I would have at least hoped for a bit of mechanics at the Forza, which would have relieved a lot of my frustrations while playing the races of The Crew 2 against the AI. A way to level the playing field so to speak. There is no rewind feature, and therefore 35 minutes in a cross-country event from New York to Los Angeles when an AI driver pushed me back to 180 mph and I sent off the road, aborted the race and never looked back. The rewind feature would have completed some of The Crew 2's toughest and longest challenges, much less frustrating. Why it's not in the game, I'm not sure, but when Forza Horizon offers single-player and multiplayer races at a high level, and is still able to implement this feature, I wonder why it was not activated solo challenges
The biggest problems of Crew 2 come from these questionable design choices. His environments and characters always look a little dated. True, the map of the Ivory Tower is huge, but it is empty. I have never felt the need to go exploring between races, and when I did, I quickly found myself opening my map for the next event, and using the map. fast travel option to go immediately in seconds. It's a practical feature, yes, but another who plays in this notion that The Crew 2 does not know what she wants to be. Why even have this huge world if a fast travel option to every challenge is available right off the bat and is the first option in the list? You would surely want to give players a reason to discover and explore the United States more slowly, almost as their predecessor did, albeit in a horribly old-fashioned story. But there were players who covered a ton of land while they continued their adventure despite everything. I quickly got in the habit of traveling quickly to an event, completing it and rinsing it again.
This is particularly disappointing given the new additions to The Crew 2 of air and marine vehicles to the list. I would have liked to see missions or challenges that specifically required you to switch from one vehicle to the other in order to join the next family headquarters. Instead, the only time The Crew 2 is playing in its new features is in Live Series events, and there are only six, including the tutorial.
In this sense, The Crew 2 is best seen as a huge sandbox that you and your friends prefer to create your own pleasure. The challenges and the races in cooperation are good, but apart from doing the same as you probably have already done solo, there is no PvP multiplayer to set a waypoint and tell your crew that the last is a rotten egg. There are also skill challenges, such as slaloms, speed traps, radius escape games, and lots of other things to do around the map that will allow you to have fun. 39, buy new vehicles with followers to raise your level of fame. Icon, and booty to update your car.
The upgrade system in The Crew 2 is largely the same in the first game. You will win a new engine or brakes with a numbered number and a rarity color. The higher these values, the better your car will be when this part is equipped. AFFIX parts provide additional benefits and bonuses when equipped, but may not provide the best performance. This adds an element of compromise in the way you improve and adjust your car. Plus, for serious engines, there is a Pro Settings option that gives you a ton of sliders to adjust things like traction control, ABS, ESP and braking power.
My biggest dissatisfaction with The Crew 2 is a number of performance issues and bugs that have severely hampered my experience. The skill challenges in my game have completely dissipated and would never appear after I've finished a handful. If I drove to a place on a map where there was a challenge icon, the challenge just started. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the game, turn off my system, restart the game, but to no avail. I can only badume that I'm part of an incredibly low percentage of players who will suffer, but that has eliminated some of the gameplay, and even advanced and improved my vehicles to compete in later events almost impossible without simply redo the shopping that I had already finished. Add to the fact that I've had vehicles and parts of the environment pop-in literally seconds before I crashed in some cases, and very long load times and The Crew 2 just feels as he lacks the polish he really needs to compete with the Forza Horizon series for the open-world racing crown.
The Crew 2 still does not deliver the ambitious open-world runner that Ivory Tower and Ubisoft want to make the series, and I can not help but think that it's because he's trying to accommodate solo and multiplayer camps. Its solo content, while entertaining, has no real impact because of its literally non-existent story, and its lack of PvP feels like a mbadive missed opportunity. If you're willing to accept The Crew 2 for the buggy, not sure of the game itself, it's fun to have, but it's far behind the competition at this point.
