"Such actions aimed at blackmailing teachers and compromising the integrity of our exams will not be tolerated," Kipsang said.

His comments also came on the day Maranda Boys High School in Siaya County was closed indefinitely after student unrest.

Masibo Kitui, director of the department of education, said that they had decided to send the students home, following the tension that reigned in the school since Tuesday.

"We learned that the students had even printed posters expressing dissatisfaction with the administration," Kitui said.

According to the students who spoke to The Standard, the administration uses rules that do not suit them because they are punitive.

Speaking of the Chalbi incident, the PS said the attack could have aimed to expand the issue of relocation of school management, which he said would not be re-examined.

PS Kipsang also said that there had been a substantial improvement in the management of unrest in schools, which is usually a challenge in the second term.

The PS said the ministry will encourage day schooling which he says has helped reduce cases of student unrest.
