SAN FRANCISCO – Rock icon Patti Smith will lead a new benefit concert to fight climate change on the sidelines of talks in San Francisco, organizers said on Wednesday.

The 14 September concert will close a three-day "summit" of local leaders on climate change from around the world, and called by outgoing California governor Jerry Brown.

Smith is the so-called 71-year-old punk godmother who has often made a profit in recent years. She will be accompanied by Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir and Red Hot Chili Peppers bbadist Flea.

Other performers include the French singer Imany and Tenzin Choegyal, a Tibetan music activist from around the world

This initiative is the fourth of the "Pathway to Paris" initiative launched by artists before the historic 2015 climate change summit in Paris, which aimed to limit global warming.
